Tuesday Tutorial.....on Wednesday.....

OK......I am well aware that today is not Tuesday but i normally pre write my tutorial on a Monday ready for publishing on Tuesday, but my little girl Poppy decided to have a fight with the baby gate on Monday and the day involved my rushing her to the docs with a bloody face. She is OK apart from a split lip bruised gum and a hole in her lip where the tooth went through it. I don't think she will be fighting the gate again!
So today will be "Tuesday"  tutorial on Wednesday!

A lot of people don't know this but the Fiskars shape templates are great for cutting fabric to appliqué. It is quite simple! Here is how you do it....

Firstly, Make sure you have a new blade in your Fiskars shape express tool. The blades are not expensive and you can pick them up at Spotlight or Abiscraft on the web. Abiscrafts shipping is only $1 worldwide which gives you more money to spend on Fiskars tools!!!
Once you have a sharp blade. choose your fabric and iron on  vliesofix to the back. bondaweb also works. i have even used that iron on interfacing. What you need is to make the fabric stiff so it will cut like paper cuts.
Once you have it ironed on. using a FISKARS mat ....and i CANNOT emphasize  this enough ( your shapecutter will not work on one of those cheap green self healing mats) cut out your shape as you would a paper shape. The blade will glide though like butter.

Once you have cut your shape off attach it to what ever you want to use. I am using body suit for Poppy.
Once you have attached it where you want it, using a sewing machine if you are lazy like me, or hand stitch around the shape.
And there you have it! a personalize bodysuit!
All the Fiskars templates work I even used the butterfly one on a body suit. The butterfly template is quite detailed but it cut it no dramas. Here is Poppy modelling the finished item for you!
All i added on this bodysuit was a few buttons on the wings.

I hope everyone out there gives this a go! I just love the Fiskars Shape templates!!!!

A card a day - day 20

O.K. this photo really doesn't do this card justice but i love this card anyway! i have a lot of larger patterned papers and sometimes it is hard to get them on to a card and look ok so with this card i cut out the pattern with my Fiskars fingertip knife and layered it onto the card with 3D foam dots. the card has a real 3D feel to it but it is hard to see in the photo.

Tuesday Tutorial.... Using the I-Top.

I have this great gadget called the I-Top. I brought it as i was sick of not having the matching brads for projects. And since i have got the
 I-Top i LOVE it!

It is quite simple to use but i thought i would show everyone how to use it and if they want to buy one by the end of this tutorial you can get them and all the accessories at Simon Says Stamp
Apart from making brads, the accessories that are now available let you make hair clips, badges, magnets and headbands. so cool!
This is the I-Top gadget.
Here is how to use it.
First you pick your paper and size of brad you want to make. they come in 3 sizes. i am using the medium one as it is a good size to see when photographing it.
Once you have decided what size you want. you need to get a brad shell(there is 2 parts top and bottom-braddy bit) Then you need to cut out your paper to match the size of the brad. The tool comes with little stencils for you to trace and cut out. but i am lazy so i brought the punches that match the brad size. so punch out a piece of paper or cut one out by hand.
once you have done this i like to put a little bit of dry glue onto the middle of the back side of your shape. i find it easier to line up when you are making the brad(as you will see in a few steps down) I used herma dotto.

Stick the top part of the brad to the glue you put down.

put into the metal side of the I-Top and push down with the handle.
It should look like this.

Push down the bits of folded paper into the top part of the brad.

Place the bottom part of the brad into the little hole in the metal part of the I-Top and line up with the top part of the brad that is still in the white sucker part.(you will see mine is not straight i only did this so you can see where it was going)
Press with handle again.

Open the handle and the brad is pushed together in the white sucker part.

Pull the Brad out and there you have it a customized brad!!!
You can use any paper and then make sure specific patterns are lined up like i did with the little cat. or you can even pring pictures and put them on brads as i did in my other post today. I used sticky back fabric and printed on it to put my niece's face on the brad!

A card a Day - day 19

Todays card I just love! I used my great gadget the I-Top which you can make personalized brads, and i put one of my nieces on the brad. I used a Pink cat studio stamp and some old heidi grace papers!
don't you just love the stamp. Pink Cat Studio make some fantastic rubber and digital images to colour!

A card a day - day 18

The card i have created today is a good way to show you how great Fiskars threading water punch really is! I just love it! I think out of all my border punches i always come back to this punch.
I have coloured in a hero arts stamp with pencils and gamsol to give the muted effect you cannot really get from copics. I quite like this effect and is really simple to do. Then i have layered several colours of punched borders together on the card.

With today's card i have stamped and coloured with pencils to give a more pastel look on my card. I have also used Cuttlebug to emboss the card and used my Fiskars fingertip knife to cut out the stamped image to give a 3D effect. The stamp is Stampin up from a few years ago i  think it is retired now.

Tuesday Tutorial.... making tags with punches

We all want to add a little sentiment to our cards when we make them and sometimes just do not have the right bit of card to stamp it on, or even the bit of card needs jazzing up a little. Sometimes like me i just do not want to take out my cuttlebug ,dies and the rest of the stuff that goes with die cutting a tag for a card. As you can see on my card for day 12 i have used a different technique to create my tag for the sentiment. I have used my Fiskars border punch. It is very easy to do and takes like 2 mins!
First line up your card with the edge of the design. it doesn't matter if it cuts in the middle of the paper we will correct it in a minute.

Punch. Then take your card to the other side and line up again.
Punch. you will note once all punched the pattern starts at the edge of your card.
flip the card over and do the same to the other side. Ensuring that the pattern lines up with the opposite  end.

Once you have done this, you can cut along the end of the pattern. If you need a bigger tag cut after 2 patterns.
And there you have it! a little tag for your sentiment. i added a little dotted line around the edge for my card and stamped my sentiment in the middle(as seen in last post)
This technique also works well with the new Fiskars corner lever punches. You can take out the corner part and then punch in the same way. I have used 2 different Fiskars corner lever punches in the pics below.

this one i have added some card to show how you can use the photo corner punch.
Don't forget to check out the ANZ Fiskars blog for more great ideas and also don't forget my give-away this month. just load up a card to this post and be in the chance for some goodies!

A card a day - day 12

Another day another card.....
todays card i thought i might make a male card.
to create this card i used patterned papers(i cannot remember what brand!) lawn fawn stamp from critters in the burbs and my upper crest border punch to make the tag. It was very easy to make the little tag. i punched the upper crest on some card and then flipped over the card and punched the other side. as long as the 2 border are lined up you can trim them to make this little tag for sentiments. Easy huh!
